A jury has been selected in the attempted murder trial of a South Carolina woman accused in a 2020 shooting linked to a marijuana deal in Charleston County.
Jury Selected in Attempted Murder Trial
Camile Jade Flores is accused of helping arrange a marijuana deal that ended with 20-year-old Jermaine Snyder being shot in the face at a Charleston County apartment complex in September 2020.
Prosecutors said cellphone records, surveillance footage, and recorded jail calls connect Flores to the case.
Prosecutors Say Flores Helped Set Up Deal
Authorities allege the shooting happened during a marijuana transaction at the Carriage Lane apartment complex.
Flores has denied being the shooter.
Judge Allows Trial to Continue Without Defendant Present
During court proceedings Tuesday, attorneys argued over whether the trial could continue while Flores was absent from court.
Prosecutors presented Ring camera footage they claimed showed Flores at home after court had already started.
The defense argued she had not been warned the trial could proceed without her.
Judge Jennifer McCoy ultimately ruled the trial could move forward.
Additional Motions Argued Before Opening Statements
Attorneys also debated whether statements tied to co-defendant Deshawn Waring could be used during the trial even though he is not present in court.
Other arguments involved witness-related issues, including whether the victim’s stepmother could remain inside the courtroom outside of her testimony.
Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday morning.
