A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to prison after causing a serious crash while driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

Crash Left Multiple People Injured

Authorities said 28-year-old Maximiliano Chavez ran a red light in September 2025 while speeding in his Jeep after drinking and smoking marijuana.

The crash involved multiple vehicles, including one carrying Rebekah Dauz and her 9-year-old son. Dauz was seven months pregnant at the time, and her unborn baby later died because of the crash.

Her son suffered critical injuries and spent several days in intensive care.

Sentenced to Prison

Chavez pleaded guilty to DUI causing substantial bodily harm and reckless driving. He was sentenced to 16 to 40 years in prison.

During sentencing, Chavez apologized and said he hoped to become a better person after prison.

Victims Speak in Court

Dauz told the court the crash left her physically and emotionally scarred. Her son also spoke during the hearing and said he forgave Chavez while continuing to recover from his injuries.

Prosecutors said Chavez had previous DUI arrests before the deadly crash.
