North Charleston police arrested an 18-year-old in connection with the Wescott incident

A shooting incident in North Charleston has led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect, raising concerns about gun violence in residential areas.

Incident Details

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:30 p.m. on April 14.

The shooting took place in the 5000 block of Morrow Lane in the Wescott area.

When police arrived:

  • They found that shots had been fired at a home
  • A parked vehicle was also hit multiple times
  • The suspects had already fled the scene

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Suspect Arrested

Authorities later identified and arrested Kohl Whitfield Clements, 18, in connection with the shooting.

He has been charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Three counts of assault and battery
  • Discharging a firearm into a dwelling

He was taken to the Dorchester County Detention Center.

What Witnesses Reported

A resident told police that an unknown vehicle pulled up in front of the house before gunfire suddenly began.

Bullets struck both the home and a nearby vehicle, causing significant damage but no physical harm to anyone inside.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have said:

  • They are trying to determine if more people were involved
