A 91‑year‑old man, Wilfrid Demers, is dead after an early‑morning house fire in Lexington County, South Carolina. He was found deceased inside a home on the 100 block of Longview Street in the Edmund community, just south of Boiling Springs Road and about 10 miles south of the town of Lexington.

How the fire was discovered

  • Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said firefighters responded to the blaze just after 12 a.m. on Wednesday and discovered Demers dead at the scene.
  • The fire occurred in a residential home in the Edmund area of Lexington County, a rural part of the county roughly 10 miles outside the town of Lexington.

Ongoing investigation

  • The cause of the fire and Demers’ death remain under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
