Significant flooding in Union County on Saturday trapped vehicles on multiple roads and prompted an alert from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Roads Affected
Flooded roads include Indian Trail Road, Sardis Church Road, Gribble Road, Unionville Indian Trail Road, and parts of Idlewild Road. Photos shared by the sheriff’s office showed cars partially submerged and people stranded outside their vehicles.
Safety Warnings
Deputies urged drivers to find alternate routes and avoid flooded areas. “If you cannot see the roadway, do not attempt to drive through it,” officials warned. Even shallow-looking water can stall a vehicle or create dangerous situations.
Flood Alert
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for northern Union County until 3:15 p.m., noting that rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas are affected. Officials said it may take several hours for stormwater to drain completely.
