A North Charleston man was arrested after police allegedly found cocaine and a firearm during a traffic stop on Friday.
Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest
According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers were patrolling the Chicora-Cherokee area when they spotted a vehicle with illegal window tint.
Police said the driver appeared to cover his face after noticing the patrol vehicle and then committed several traffic violations, including improper lane changes and an improper turn onto Dorchester Road.
Drugs and Gun Recovered
After stopping the vehicle, officers identified the driver as Aaron Jose Dawson II, 46.
Police reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and said Dawson appeared nervous during the encounter. Officers then conducted a pat-down search.
According to the report, officers found a plastic bag containing approximately 30 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine.
A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a revolver in the center console and ammunition inside a backpack.
Charges Filed
Dawson was arrested and charged with:
- Trafficking cocaine
- Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Investigation Continues
The case remains under investigation. Authorities have not released additional information about the passenger who was in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.
