A tragic case in Texas has drawn attention after a newly married couple’s relationship ended in violence, leading to serious criminal charges.
Newlywed Woman Found Dead in Apartment
Authorities in Texas say 23-year-old Francisco Mendez-Marin has been charged with murder following the death of his wife, Karla Rangel, who was just 20 years old.
Police from the Carrollton Police Department responded to a disturbance call at an apartment around 4:40 a.m. on March 18. When officers arrived, they found Mendez-Marin covered in blood inside the apartment.
Victim Discovered with Severe Injuries
Inside the residence, officers found Karla Rangel unresponsive with a serious neck injury. She was declared dead at the scene.
A blood-covered pocketknife was also recovered from the apartment, which investigators believe was used in the attack.
Suspect’s Statements Raise Concern
According to police reports, Mendez-Marin initially told officers that he “didn’t do anything bad.” However, body camera footage reportedly captured him saying in Spanish that he felt “obligated” to commit the act.
Officials have not yet shared full details about what led to the incident, but they believe it was connected to a domestic dispute that escalated.
Marriage Just Weeks Old
Investigators found a marriage license in the apartment showing that the couple had been married on February 26, less than a month before the incident. This detail has made the case even more shocking for the community.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Mendez-Marin was arrested at the scene and later taken to jail. He has been formally charged with murder and is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail without bond.
Authorities have not released information about his next court appearance.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Details about a third person present in the apartment have not been made public.
