A Georgia family is mourning the death of a young mother and aspiring nursing student who was fatally shot in a Publix parking lot earlier this month.
Woman Shot Dead in Publix Parking Lot
Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Shyla Cummings, who was found with gunshot wounds in a parking lot in Stonecrest, Georgia, on May 6.
Authorities said she died at the scene.
Suspect Found With Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
Investigators identified 23-year-old Isaiah Tarver as the suspected shooter.
Police said Tarver was found at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
He has been charged with murder.
Baby Daughter Was Inside Vehicle
Family members said Cummings and Tarver had been involved in an on-and-off relationship.
According to relatives, Cummings’ 7-month-old daughter was inside the vehicle during the shooting but was not injured.
The child is now staying with Cummings’ parents.
Family Remembers Young Mother
Loved ones described Shyla as a caring mother with plans to begin nursing school in August.
Her family said she was excited about her future and loved spending time with her daughter.
