A shocking incident in Provo has led to the arrest of a mother accused of kidnapping a child over a bullying dispute. The case has raised serious concerns about how such situations are handled by parents.
Mother Arrested Over Alleged Kidnapping
Shannon Tufuga, 40, has been charged with child kidnapping and aggravated child abuse. Police say she targeted an 11-year-old boy she believed was bullying her children.
According to reports, the incident happened in September 2025 when she allegedly drove around her neighbourhood looking for the boy.
What Police Say Happened
Authorities claim that after finding the boy riding his bicycle, Tufuga blocked his path with her car and forced him inside. She then reportedly took him to her home without permission from his parents.
At the house, she allegedly made the boy apologise to her daughter. Reports also say she threatened him and warned that he was “lucky” she had not harmed him further.
Family Dispute Behind the Incident
The boy’s mother, Amberlee Collazo, said there had been ongoing issues between the children. She explained that Tufuga’s daughter had been giving unwanted attention to her son, which eventually led to a negative reaction from him.
After that, Collazo believes Tufuga began targeting her child.
Conflicting Claims from Both Sides
Tufuga’s legal team has denied the allegations, stating that the claims are not accurate. Her attorney, Pona Sitake, said the situation involves ongoing bullying issues faced by Tufuga’s children, some of whom have special needs.
Tufuga has also claimed that previous complaints about bullying were not properly addressed by the school.
