A group of thieves stormed Seat at the Table Books, a well-known indie bookstore in Elk Grove, California, early on Sunday morning. The burglars forced the store owner into a tough decision, making the situation even more intense.
The Break-In
The break-in took place on the 9000 block of Laguna Springs Drive at around 5 a.m. The bookstore, which is located in Sacramento, shared a video of the shocking incident on social media. In the video, two suspects can be seen grabbing the cash drawer and computer monitor before fleeing the scene.
Reaction From the Bookstore Owner
The owner of the bookstore shared a post on social media about the incident. They expressed frustration, writing: “Nothing like waking up to an alarm alert because someone is stealing your cash boxes and trashing your back office looking for easy grabs. What kind of person decides to hit an INDIE BOOKSTORE?”
In the post, the bookstore also offered a small free coffee to customers who came in to show their support, saying: “We need your support today! We’ll say thank you with a free small coffee if you ask.”
How the Burglars Got In
An employee of Seat at the Table Books explained to KCRA that the burglars gained access to the store by unlocking a lockbox outside, which contained the key to the building. Once inside, they ransacked the store and caused damage to the desk where the main computer was kept.
Impact on the Business
The store owner announced that, due to the damage and theft, they would only be accepting card payments or exact cash until the register could be replaced. The burglary was one of several similar incidents affecting local businesses in the area in recent weeks.
