Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old quadruple amputee, is facing murder charges after allegedly killing an acquaintance during a heated argument while on a late-night joyride in Maryland. Webber, a former professional cornhole player, was driving with three friends in his Tesla SUV when the incident occurred.
The Murder and Aftermath
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Webber was driving with three friends when he got into a violent argument with his front passenger, Bradrick Michael Wells. The altercation escalated, and Webber allegedly shot and killed Wells, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.
The two other passengers in the backseat were horrified and fled the vehicle when Webber pulled over. Webber reportedly asked the passengers to help him drag Wells’ body from the car, but when they refused, he abandoned them on the side of the road in Charlotte Hall, Maryland.
Discovery of Wells’ Body
Two hours after the incident, a person called authorities after finding a body in a yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, where officers confirmed Wells’ death at the scene.
Webber’s Tesla SUV was tracked down to Charlottesville, Virginia, over 100 miles away from the crime scene. Webber was found at a nearby hospital, seeking treatment for an undisclosed medical issue, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said.
Arrest and Charges
Webber was arrested by Albemarle County Police Department officers after his release from the hospital on Monday. He has been charged with first and second-degree murder and is currently being held as a fugitive from justice while awaiting extradition back to Maryland.
Webber’s Background and Disability
Webber gained attention as a professional cornhole player in the American Cornhole League despite being a quadruple amputee. He lost his lower arms and legs to a bacterial infection when he was just 10 months old.
Webber defied his disability, pursuing wrestling in middle school and eventually learning to walk by scooting on his leg stumps. He expressed a desire to become either a priest or a Secret Service agent as a child, but later developed an interest in law enforcement and firearms.
In a YouTube video, Webber was seen loading and firing a 9mm handgun, demonstrating his proficiency with weapons.
Ongoing Investigation
Webber is now facing serious charges for the alleged murder of Bradrick Michael Wells, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
