Diane Wetherbee Arrested for Shooting Incident
Diane Wetherbee has been charged with aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon following the Saturday night shooting in Challis, Idaho. Court documents reveal that she is ordered to stay away from the victim.
The Argument and Shooting
According to the police, Wetherbee and the man were drinking together at a home when an argument broke out. The man, who later spoke to authorities, claimed he handed Wetherbee the gun and dared her to shoot him. Wetherbee allegedly complied and shot the man in the leg.
After the shooting, Wetherbee went upstairs to an area bedroom and reportedly fell asleep, leaving the scene as if nothing had happened. Another man present at the home did not witness the shooting but heard a single gunshot.
Police Response and Evidence
When deputies arrived around 11:23 p.m., they found Wetherbee sleeping in the bedroom. They also discovered the .380 pistol on the floor, surrounded by pools of blood.
Further investigation led to the discovery of more blood inside the home, including on a pair of boots near the back door. Wetherbee allegedly confessed to the crime on her way to the Custer County Jail.
Legal Proceedings and Bond
Wetherbee is currently being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on March 30. A judge has issued a no-contact order, demanding Wetherbee stay away from the victim.
If convicted, Wetherbee faces up to 15 years in prison.
