A Florida woman who tried to hire a hitman from a satirical website to kill her 3-year-old son will not serve any prison time. Instead, she has been sentenced to over a decade of probation.

Incident and Charges

Jazmin Paez, a 20-year-old woman from Florida, pleaded guilty to charges including solicitation of first-degree murder, unlawful use of a communications device, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Paez attempted to hire a hitman through a parody website called “Rent-a-Hitman” in July 2023. The website owner, Robert Innes, became alarmed by the request and contacted the police.

The Plea Agreement

As part of a plea deal, Paez will avoid jail time but must serve more than 10 years of probation. The court considered Paez’s background, including the fact that she was a teen mother and her son may have been born from an incestuous relationship.

The Details of Paez’s Situation

The child’s father was never involved in the child’s life, and both sets of the child’s grandparents have been involved in the child’s upbringing. Prosecutors suggested that Paez may have been emotionally distressed after her relationship with a teen ended when she disclosed that she had a child.

The end of the relationship might have triggered her desire to get rid of the child in order to rekindle the relationship.

Paez’s Behavior and Sentence

Despite her troubling actions, Paez demonstrated some positive progress while on pretrial release. She graduated high school and is almost finished with her associate degree in science. As a result, the court has allowed a more lenient sentence.

Paez will be under strict community control for the first two years of her probation, followed by 12 years of reporting probation.

She will also be required to undergo behavioral therapy and a mental health assessment, along with any necessary treatment. If she breaks the terms of her probation, she could face up to 40 years in prison.

Termination of Parental Rights

Paez’s parental rights have been terminated, and she is no longer allowed to have contact with her son. The child has been legally adopted by Paez’s mother. Paez now lives with her biological father.
