MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – On March 29, 2026, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will honor the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Vietnam War, marking the anniversary of the 1973 withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Vietnam.
Free Admission for Vietnam Veterans and Their Families
To show appreciation, all Vietnam veterans and their immediate families will receive free admission to the museum. The Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony and additional activities will be included with general admission for all other visitors.
“All of us at Patriots Point are deeply honored to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who served during such a defining period in our nation’s history,” said Allison Hunt, Executive Director of Patriots Point.
“This day is an opportunity to reflect on their service and ensure their stories are remembered for future generations.”
Ceremony and Special Activities
The Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. inside the Vietnam Experience at Patriots Point. The ceremony will feature speakers who served in various roles during the Vietnam War, including:
- Dr. Bruce T. “Woody” Caine, retired U.S. Army Infantry officer
- Doug Geganto, former U.S. Army combat medic
- Arlene Southerland, retired U.S. Navy nurse
In addition to the ceremony, Patriots Point has partnered with the University of South Carolina Libraries to present a special selection of Vietnam War footage from the United States Marine Corps film archive.
The screenings will take place in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the USS Yorktown, starting at 1:00 p.m., with additional showings throughout the afternoon.
A Day of Remembrance
This special event provides an opportunity for veterans, their families, and the public to come together in remembrance and reflection. The museum encourages everyone to join in honoring the legacy of those who served in the Vietnam War.
