Defir pressed on her back and hips, risking injury to the infant until she convinced him to let her secure the baby in a crib. She then barricaded herself with her toddler in another room, screamed from the balcony, and alerted her husband who was yardworking outside; Defir fled as neighbors and churchgoers pursued.

That day, he also inappropriately touched a woman in a nearby church and grabbed two strangers on the street. Police found him nearby, tracked by 15 shouting residents; he made crude remarks to an officer upon arrest.
