Low Country, South Carolina — On October 18, there will be “No Kings” demonstrations across the country, with many scheduled in the Lowcountry.
The “No Kings” campaign claims that “millions” will gather across the United States on Saturday. The planned protests coincide with an ongoing government shutdown that threatens federal workers and services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Portland, and the Trump administration’s flirtations with using the Insurrection Act to suppress dissent.
On October 18, two rallies will take place near Charleston:
North Charleston – 1-3pm at 5201 Ashley Phosphate Road.
Summerville, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 500 N. Main Street
Protests are also planned for Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Bluffton, as well as other large metropolitan areas such as Florence, Greenville, and Columbia. For more information, go here.
In June, thousands gathered in Charleston and the surrounding area for two days of protest, which local police described as “overwhelmingly peaceful.” According to the “No Kings” website, nonviolent activities are a “core principle” underlying all of its events, with firearms prohibited even if legally permissible and participants expected to de-escalate any conflicts.
