A Georgetown County foster parent has been arrested after two elementary school students reportedly told a school resource officer they were being abused at home.
Foster Parent Charged
According to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Rosa Singleton, 58, on Friday. She has been charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing harm, according to jail records.
Investigators said the case began after two children reported the alleged abuse to a school resource officer.
Allegations of Abuse
Authorities said the children told investigators that Singleton punished one child by tying them to a chair and taping their mouth shut. Deputies have not released additional information about how long the alleged abuse may have been happening.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) is now assisting with the investigation and working to arrange emergency placement for the children involved.
Released on Bond
Jail records show Singleton was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center and later released Saturday after posting a $5,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
