A woman accused of stabbing a pregnant mother in a Charlotte parking lot last month has been denied bond following a court hearing.

Details of the Stabbing Incident

The stabbing occurred around 11:30 a.m. on March 18, 2026, at a Harris Teeter parking lot on Sharon Amity Road in the Providence Division of Charlotte. The victim, who was pregnant and had her 3-year-old child with her, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the victim did not know the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Marvina Butler-Hardy.

While the motive for the attack remains unclear, authorities say the victim was randomly targeted and stabbed.

Investigation and Arrest

Following the stabbing, police released surveillance footage from inside the store, which showed a potential suspect and her vehicle, which had a taped-up window and a missing hubcap. This led to a public search for the attacker.

On March 30, Butler-Hardy was arrested in Florida with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies. After being processed in Florida, she was extradited back to Charlotte.

Court Appearance and Bond Denial

During her court appearance on April 22, a Mecklenburg County judge denied Butler-Hardy bond. If she is granted bond in the future, the judge ruled she must be placed on electronic monitoring.

Charges

Butler-Hardy faces serious charges, including:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury
  • Battery of an unborn child

Her arrest has brought attention to the random nature of the attack, and the community remains concerned about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
