A violent incident in Memphis has led to criminal charges after a man opened fire outside a restaurant following an altercation inside.

  • Suspect: Roberto Ortiz, 44, arrested and held in the Shelby County Jail on $200,000 bond.

What Happened

Authorities report that Ortiz was inside the restaurant and allegedly attacked a woman. Employees asked him to pay his check and leave, but Ortiz reportedly threatened them with statements like “You’re going to die” and “I’m going to shoot you.”

After being escorted out, Ortiz allegedly went to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and began shooting at employees before fleeing in a gray 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe with a Mississippi license plate.

Investigation

  • Police recovered nine spent 9 mm shell casings.
  • Four bullet strikes were documented on the exterior wall of the restaurant.
  • No injuries were reported.
  • Employees positively identified Ortiz as the shooter.

Charges & Court

Ortiz faces:

  • Criminal attempted first-degree murder
  • Employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony
  • Two counts of aggravated assault

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
