A 10-year-old girl in Delaware was killed after severe abuse at home, and both her father and stepmother now face serious murder charges, according to police.

Child Died After Severe Abuse at Home

The victim, identified as Fatima Kone, died on May 28 at her home in Smyrna. Delaware State Police said she suffered repeated abuse involving “various objects” and forced physical exercises.

Investigators allege the abuse was carried out by her father, Badara Kone, and continued with involvement from her stepmother, Adiaratou Coulibaly.

Investigation and Cause of Death

Police said Fatima was struck multiple times, including with a belt, causing her to fall and hit her head on furniture. A medical examiner later ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple blunt-force injuries.

Authorities also said there was a delay in calling 911 after the incident.

Brothers Helped Victim Before Death

According to police, Fatima’s two brothers helped carry her to bed after the beating. The boys, aged 15 and 11, were later taken for medical checks, where investigators uncovered signs of ongoing abuse in the home.

Arrests and Charges

Badara Kone was arrested and charged with multiple counts, including murder and continuous child abuse. He remains in custody.

Coulibaly has also been charged with second-degree murder by abuse or neglect and is awaiting extradition to Delaware.
