A Missouri man has been convicted of murdering his wife after a violent domestic dispute in Henry County.

Conviction and Charges

Ryan Alexander, 30, was found guilty by a jury of:

  • First-degree murder
  • Armed criminal action

The verdict follows nearly four years of investigation and legal proceedings.

Details of the Murder

On August 27, 2022, Alexander and his wife, 28-year-old Ashton Schouten, were arguing at their home. Authorities said the couple had a troubled relationship due to Alexander’s controlling behavior and suspicions of infidelity.

After leaving the house briefly to buy beer, Alexander returned and discovered luggage packed for himself and their one-year-old twin boys. Authorities reported that he then took a handgun and shot Schouten once in the head, before unloading the remainder of the magazine into her.

Alexander later called 911 and claimed he acted in self-defense.

Jury Deliberation and Statement

The Henry County jury quickly returned a guilty verdict. Prosecuting Attorney LaChrisha Gray confirmed that sentencing will be scheduled at a later date. Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway praised her team for securing accountability and emphasized their commitment to public safety.

Victim’s Legacy

Ashton Schouten worked as a physical therapist since age 16 and had a deep love for animals. She is survived by her twin boys, parents, and seven siblings.
