MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — A 42-year-old Minnesota woman is in custody after allegedly fatally shooting another woman during an argument over a small debt.
Henrietta Childress, also known by the nickname “Hershey,” was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Aisha Farah Yussuf, who died from gunshot wounds on May 9, authorities said.
The Incident
Police said the two women were at an apartment with two male witnesses when a verbal altercation broke out over a $50 debt. One witness reported hearing Childress and Yussuf arguing, after which he went into a bathroom. From there, he heard another man yell, “Hershey, what are you doing?” followed by gunfire.
After the shooting, Childress and the other man fled the apartment. First responders arrived to find Yussuf with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigation Details
According to the probable cause statement, Childress allegedly retrieved a pistol from a bedroom and fired multiple shots at Yussuf, despite the other man’s attempts to intervene. He told police that Childress threatened him before he escaped from the scene.
Apartment surveillance cameras captured a person matching Childress’ description leaving the building immediately after the shooting. Police later located and detained Childress. While she initially denied any involvement, she admitted being at the apartment once shown the video.
Legal Proceedings
Childress is being held at the Hennepin County Jail on a $1 million bond. Her next court date is scheduled for June 11. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
