The crash happened on Friday, May 15, around 6:00 p.m. on Amsterdam Avenue near 109th Street. Authorities say 61-year-old driver Elvin Suarez allegedly collided with a parked vehicle, setting off a chain reaction before his Mercedes SUV hit multiple pedestrians.
Witnesses reported that the victims were sitting outside a barbershop when the vehicle drove into them.
Victims and Injuries
The deceased were identified as 46-year-old Jason Negron and 35-year-old Michael Saint-Hilaire. Three men aged 36 to 52 were critically injured and taken to hospitals. Witnesses described trying to lift the vehicle to rescue one man trapped underneath.
Suspect and Charges
Police say Suarez appeared confused after exiting the vehicle and was allegedly under the influence. Charges include manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, and driving while intoxicated. Authorities do not believe the incident was intentional, and the investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors and bystanders assisted at the scene, with a retired EMT performing CPR on one victim. GoFundMe pages have been created for the families of Negron and Saint-Hilaire. Negron is survived by his wife and two daughters, while Saint-Hilaire leaves behind three young children.
