A California man accused of killing his partner has been captured in Mexico, and their two young children have been safely recovered.
Arrest and Recovery of Children
Camron Lee, 40, was apprehended on May 17 in Primo Tapia, Baja California, Mexico, along with his children, Athena, 5, and Mateo, 4. The children have been reunited with their maternal grandmother in California.
Manhunt and Investigation
The FBI led a nearly six-month search for Lee and the children after a public tip helped locate them in Mexico. The operation involved the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Mexico’s Office of the Attorney General, and the Mexican military.
Background of the Case
On July 8, 2024, Sacramento police found Lee’s partner, Angelica Bravo, dead at their home on Didcot Circle. Athena and Mateo were missing, believed to have crossed the border into Mexico with Lee.
Lee was initially charged with possession of an assault weapon and later charged with murder in March 2025. A federal arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued in August 2024.
Official Statements
Sacramento Police Chief Zachary Bales and District Attorney Thien Ho praised the collaboration between agencies, emphasizing that Lee will now face justice and the children have been safely reunified with family. The FBI credited a tip and its reward program for the breakthrough in the case.
Return to the U.S.
Lee’s return is being facilitated by “Project Welcome Home,” a federal program that assists in transporting fugitives back to the United States.
