Three people were found dead inside a home in Harrison County, Indiana, in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.
Details of the Incident
Deputies arrived at a residence on Greenbrier Road SE in Elizabeth on May 13 around 7:26 p.m. after a welfare check requested by Ray Dixon, concerned about his brother Paul, who had expressed suicidal thoughts.
Brett Dixon, 36, was found deceased on the front porch, while Melissa Cochran Dixon, 54, and Paul Dixon, 61, were found inside the home.
Preliminary Investigation
The Harrison County Coroner’s Office reported Brett had gunshot wounds to the chest and head. Melissa sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, and Paul died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities believe the same individual was responsible for all three deaths.
Community Reaction
Neighbors expressed shock over the incident. Ramanda Archibald described the family as part of a “tight-knit community,” while Robert Hasty called Brett a “good kid” who always had a smile on his face. Authorities confirmed there is no threat to the community and no suspect at large.
