Authorities in New York have arrested three family members after a 7-year-old girl, Jor’Dynn Duncan, allegedly died following months of abuse.
Victim and Abuse
Jor’Dynn, who was placed in the care of Emily Kelly, 50, her mother Barbara Renner, 75, and Kelly’s daughter Elyssa Seymore in April 2025, was reportedly kept home from school under false pretenses, including a fake trip to Walt Disney World.
Suffolk County prosecutors say the girl endured nearly a year of systematic torture, which ultimately led to her death from a massive untreated infection caused by sharp force injuries.
Injuries and Medical Findings
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner documented approximately 90 injuries on Jor’Dynn’s body. Prosecutors described the abuse as cruel, sadistic, and meticulously documented over months.
Arrests and Charges
All three guardians were arrested Wednesday. Charges include:
- Emily Kelly: Second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, child endangerment
- Barbara Renner: Second-degree manslaughter, child endangerment
- Elyssa Seymore: Unlawful imprisonment, child endangerment
Incident Details
Kelly reportedly called 911 on December 29, 2025, claiming Jor’Dynn was in cardiac arrest. Paramedics transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk, where she was pronounced dead.
Court Appearance
All three defendants are scheduled to return to court on June 23. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said, “No child should ever endure such horror. We will seek justice for Jor’Dynn.”
