A Florida woman is facing charges after allegedly scamming a disabled man out of more than $2,000 through Facebook Dating.
Alleged Scam Details
Gianna Abel-Venezia convinced the victim that she was trapped in a domestic violence relationship and needed money to escape. Police said she even sent photos appearing to show injuries to support her story. The victim, feeling sympathy, sent her money over multiple transactions despite never meeting her in person.
Police Statement
Abel-Venezia allegedly admitted to police that she was aware her actions were “technically wrong” but did not expect them to be illegal. She reportedly told investigators that she had been targeting disabled individuals since 2025 and believed “ain’t nun that can happen.”
Charges and Court
Abel-Venezia is charged with defrauding property or committing organized fraud. She is scheduled for an arraignment on June 23. Authorities encourage anyone with similar experiences involving Abel-Venezia to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
