A shocking international case has come back into the spotlight after an 18-year-old suspect was extradited to the U.K. to face serious murder charges. The incident, which happened in London in 2024, has raised questions about safety, investigation delays, and justice.
Murder Case in Central London
The crime took place near Hyde Park, one of the most well-known areas in London. The victim, 27-year-old Kamonnan Thiamphanit, was found dead in her apartment on April 8, 2024.
Kamonnan, who worked in property management, had been living in the U.K. for nearly nine years. She was described as hardworking and well-settled in her career.
Who Is the Accused?
The accused is Enzo Bettamio, who was just 16 years old at the time of the incident. He is known as an international kart racer and holds dual Brazilian-Italian citizenship.
Reports say he travelled from Los Angeles to London on April 5, 2024. He had booked a month-long stay at Kamonnan’s property through Airbnb.
Timeline of Events
The case details reveal a troubling sequence of events:
- On April 6, Kamonnan left her friends early, saying there was an emergency at her property
- She was last seen when an Uber dropped her home around 4:24 a.m.
- About 13 hours later, Bettamio was spotted leaving the area and heading to the airport
- He then flew to Dubai
Her body was discovered two days later after friends grew worried and contacted the police.
Cause of Death and Investigation
An autopsy revealed that Kamonnan died from multiple sharp force injuries. Prosecutors said there were stab wounds across her body, and a knife was found at the scene.
Authorities later tracked Bettamio to the UAE, where he was eventually detained and extradited to the U.K. to face charges.
Family Raises Concerns
Kamonnan’s family has expressed concerns over how the case was handled initially. Her friends had contacted police before her body was found, but the situation was reportedly not treated as high risk at the time.
This has led to criticism and questions about whether faster action could have made a difference.
Legal Proceedings
Bettamio has now been formally charged with murder. He is expected to appear in court for a plea hearing scheduled for July 14.
So far, investigators have not confirmed a clear motive behind the crime. The case is still under investigation, and more details may come out during the trial.
