A tragic domestic incident in North Carolina has led to the death of a 93-year-old man, raising serious concerns about violence within homes. Authorities say the situation began as a reported emergency but quickly turned into a homicide investigation.
What Happened in Salisbury
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 2 a.m. on April 9 from Yorleni Shoff. She reported that her husband, Richard Shoff, was lying on the floor and bleeding at their home in Salisbury.
When officers arrived, they found a large amount of blood at the scene, suggesting a violent incident had taken place. Richard, who was unresponsive, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital with serious head injuries.
Evidence Found at the Scene
Investigators later obtained a search warrant and examined the house more closely. During the search, they recovered a broken vase, which they believe may have been used as a weapon in the attack.
Due to the severity of the injuries and the evidence found, Yorleni Shoff, 58, was taken into custody.
Initial Charges and Release
At first, she was charged with:
- Assault with a deadly weapon
- Domestic violence
She was later released after posting a $500,000 bond on April 17.
Victim’s Death and Upgraded Charges
Unfortunately, Richard Shoff died in the hospital a day after her release. Following his death, authorities upgraded the charges against Yorleni to first-degree murder.
She was later located at the Sleep Inn Hotel and taken back into custody without any resistance.
Current Legal Status
Yorleni Shoff is now being held at a detention centre without bond as the investigation continues. Officials have not yet shared further details about the case.
Authorities are also asking anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
