A Missouri man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing and decapitating his mother after believing she was trying to poison him.

The Crime
Trevor Huber, 43, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his 63-year-old mother, Charlotte Wilson. The incident took place on December 21, 2018, at their home on North Main Street in Cardwell, Missouri. Huber struck his mother multiple times with a blunt object and decapitated her after she was already dead.

Police Response
Huber called 911 to report the crime. When officers arrived, he answered the door naked and did not attempt to flee, hide evidence, or clean the scene. The bloody knife and hammer used in the attack were left on the kitchen table.

Mental Health and Substance Use
A forensic psychologist testified that Huber showed signs of methamphetamine-induced psychosis and delusional disorder, though it was unclear how these factors contributed to the crime. Huber reportedly wrote “I killed my mother” on paper, tore it up, and swallowed it during his interview with investigators.

Sentence
Trevor Huber was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
