A former Nevada family services worker has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for drowning her two young children in 2021.
Mother Sentenced for Killing Children
Jovan Trevino, 38, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her 4-year-old son, Christopher Fox III, and 1-year-old daughter, Gihanna Fox.
A judge ordered her to spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Children Drowned in Separate Bathtubs
Prosecutors said Trevino drowned both children at their home in Las Vegas.
Investigators said she first held her son underwater in a bathtub before drowning her daughter in another tub.
Authorities later said Trevino fled to Arizona after the killings and was arrested after allegedly telling hospital staff what she had done.
Guilty Plea Avoided Death Penalty
By pleading guilty, Trevino avoided a possible death sentence.
During sentencing, she told the court she was “not in the right mind” at the time of the killings.
Family and Judge React
The children’s grandmother told the court Trevino had “failed miserably” as a mother and said she hoped Trevino would never forget what happened.
The judge called the crime unforgettable and said a life sentence was the only appropriate punishment.
