A Pennsylvania man testified against his wife during her murder trial, claiming he later realised their adopted son had allegedly been abused before his death.
Husband Testifies Against Wife
Lauren Maloberti, 36, is charged with first-degree murder and other offences in the death of her adopted 5-year-old son, Landon Maloberti.
Her husband, Jacob Maloberti, also faces charges connected to the case but testified against her during the trial.
He told the court he lost trust in his wife after learning more about what allegedly happened to their son.
Child Died From Blunt-Force Trauma
In January 2023, the couple took Landon to a medical centre while he was unconscious. He later died at a children’s hospital.
Authorities said Landon suffered severe brain injuries, blunt-force trauma, and more than 100 bruises.
Investigators also said medical examinations found signs of earlier abuse.
Prosecutors Cite Disturbing Text Messages
During the trial, prosecutors presented text messages allegedly sent by Lauren Maloberti to her husband.
One message reportedly said, “I just got done beating your son.”
Another message warned that Landon was “gonna get it.”
Abuse Allegations Detailed in Court
Prosecutors said other children in the home told investigators Landon was physically punished, sprayed with water, forced to drink from a toilet, and constantly monitored by a camera.
The defence argued the case is complicated and claimed investigators may not fully understand what happened.
Husband to Face Separate Trial
Jacob Maloberti is expected to face trial separately after his wife’s case concludes.
