An Alabama man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the fatal shooting of his son’s girlfriend earlier this year.

Woman Died After March Shooting

According to the Trussville Police Department, officers responded to a shooting at a home in Trussville on March 7.

When police arrived, they found Whitney Robeson, 22, suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Suspect Charged Two Months Later

Authorities charged Jeffrey Scott Towers, 54, with manslaughter on May 11.

Court documents allege Towers “recklessly” caused Robeson’s death by shooting her with a firearm.

Officials said he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail before posting a $30,000 bond.

Coroner Previously Ruled Shooting Accidental

Reports indicate the Jefferson County Coroner initially ruled the shooting accidental.

Police have not publicly released detailed information about what led to the shooting.

Victim Recently Graduated College

Robeson was originally from Virginia and recently graduated from Auburn University with a degree in interior design.

Authorities said she was dating Towers’ son at the time of her death.

Defense Attorney Says Client Is Innocent

Towers’ attorney said the shooting was a tragic incident and maintained that his client is not guilty.

Officials have not yet announced the defendant’s next court date.
