An Alabama man has been charged after police say he fatally shot his son’s girlfriend earlier this year.
Alabama Man Charged in Woman’s Death
Authorities identified the suspect as 54-year-old Jeffrey Scott Towers of Trussville.
Police charged him with manslaughter in connection with the death of 22-year-old Whitney Robeson of Virginia.
Woman Died After March Shooting
According to investigators, officers responded to a home in Trussville on March 7 after receiving reports of a shooting.
Police found Robeson suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Officials said the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled the shooting accidental.
Investigation Led to Arrest
After a lengthy investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Towers on May 11.
He was taken into custody and later released on a $30,000 bond.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
Attorneys Say Client Is Innocent
Towers’ attorneys said the shooting was a tragic incident and maintained that their client is not guilty.
They also stated that Towers has no criminal history.
Family Remembers Victim
Robeson’s family described her as a talented and caring young woman with a bright future.
She graduated from Auburn University in 2025 with a degree in interior design and had recently started a career in the field.
