A Summerville man has been arrested after investigators said he falsely represented himself as a physician and performed medical examinations without a valid medical license.

Man Faces Multiple Charges

Joshua Leonard James Himes, 36, has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and unlawfully practicing medicine.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating after receiving a report involving sexual assault allegations.

Investigation Reveals Lack of Medical License

During the investigation, detectives determined that Himes allegedly claimed to be a physician and conducted medical examinations. Authorities found that he does not hold a South Carolina medical license and is not authorised to perform medical examinations.

Investigators collected evidence, reviewed the allegations, and pursued available leads before obtaining charges.

Suspect Arrested Following Search Warrant

Deputies executed a search warrant at Himes’ residence on Friday. He was taken into custody without incident and remains held at the L.C. Knight Detention Center.

Authorities Seeking Additional Information

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have received medical treatment, consultations, or services from Himes, or anyone with relevant information, to contact investigators at 843-832-0300.

The investigation remains ongoing.
