Actress and singer Claudine Longet, who shot and killed her Olympic skier husband, passes away at the age of 84

Longet’s nephew announced her death on social media.

She was known for her music and acting career, as well as for her highly publicized involvement in the 1976 shooting death of her boyfriend, Olympic skier Vladimir Sabich.

1976 Shooting Case Drew National Attention

Sabich was shot and killed in Aspen, Colorado, in March 1976.

Authorities said Longet fatally shot him with a Luger handgun inside their home.

She later testified that the gun accidentally discharged while Sabich was showing her how to use it.

Convicted of Negligent Homicide

The investigation into the case became controversial after evidence, including diary entries and blood samples, was ruled inadmissible because investigators collected them without proper warrants.

Longet was eventually convicted of misdemeanor negligent homicide.

She received a sentence of probation and 30 days in jail.

Marriage to Andy Williams

Before her relationship with Sabich, Longet was married to singer Andy Williams.

The couple had three children together.
