A late-night argument in Michigan turned deadly, leading to a shocking murder charge against a Virginia woman. The case has drawn attention due to the accused’s own statements and the disturbing details shared by investigators.
Incident in Cheshire Township, Michigan
The shooting took place around 10 p.m. on April 22 at a home in Cheshire Township. Authorities from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and local police responded quickly after receiving an emergency call.
According to reports, Jennifer Moore, 44, called 911 herself and allegedly told the dispatcher, “I just shot my boyfriend.” When officers arrived, they found her outside the house, visibly upset and crying.
What Police Found at the Scene
Officers kept watch as Moore moved back inside the home. Through a window, they reportedly saw the victim lying on the floor.
Inside, they found 52-year-old Joseph Worley lying on his back near the kitchen area. He had a serious gunshot wound at the back of his head. A black revolver was also found on the kitchen counter.
Moore allegedly told officers multiple times, “I shot him” and “I killed him,” while crying at the scene.
What Led to the Shooting
As per the complaint, the couple had just returned from dinner when an argument started. The situation quickly became tense:

- He allegedly flipped a couch and went into the bedroom
- He locked Moore out, and she asked him to open the door
When the door was opened, Moore said she grabbed a gun that was nearby. She admitted to pointing it at Worley while he walked toward the kitchen.
She later told investigators that the gun went off accidentally, claiming there was no safety and that she did not intend to shoot him.
Serious Charges Filed
Jennifer Moore is now facing a charge of “open murder,” which means the exact level of the crime (first or second degree) will be decided later in court.
She has been denied bail. Meredith Beidler stated that the charge is extremely serious and mentioned concerns about public safety and the risk of Moore leaving the area.

Joseph Worley was described as a hardworking and dedicated man. He worked as a master electrician and nuclear technician and had years of experience in leadership roles.
According to his obituary, he enjoyed spending time outdoors and was known for his determination and commitment to his work and family.
