A tragic road accident in Minnesota has once again highlighted the dangers of distracted driving. What should have been a normal day turned into a devastating moment for multiple families, all because of a brief lapse in attention.
What Happened in the Crash
According to reports from KSTP, a 17-year-old driver caused a serious three-car crash in December 2025 while allegedly using his phone.
The teen, who was driving a BMW, is now facing charges of criminal vehicular homicide. Authorities say he was distracted and failed to notice traffic ahead, leading to a high-speed collision.
Victim and Impact
The crash claimed the life of 70-year-old Linda Davis. She was sitting in her Jeep, waiting to make a turn, when the teen’s vehicle hit her from behind at a high speed.
The impact pushed her vehicle into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by another car. Sadly, Linda died at the scene, right outside her home.
Her family described her as the emotional centre of their lives — a loving grandmother, wife, and mother who was deeply connected to her community.
Injuries and Emergency Response
The crash also seriously affected a pregnant woman who was driving another vehicle involved in the accident.
Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors had to perform an emergency C-section. Thankfully:
- The mother survived
- The baby was delivered safely
- However, the mother suffered multiple injuries
This part of the incident shows how one mistake can affect many lives at once.
What Investigators Found
Reports from The Minnesota Star Tribune revealed that the teen initially claimed his car’s brakes were slow.
However, further investigation told a different story. Police examined his phone and found that:
- He was actively using an app before the crash
- His phone activity continued right up to the moment of impact
- He made several interactions on the phone during that time
Authorities also found that he called his mother before calling emergency services.
Legal Action
Although the driver is now 18, prosecutors plan to handle the case in juvenile court since he was 17 at the time of the crash.
He is currently facing a serious charge of criminal vehicular homicide, which could lead to strict legal consequences if proven guilty.
A Life Remembered
Linda Davis had just celebrated her 70th birthday a month before the accident. Her family shared that she was full of love and always there for others.
They described her as someone who:
- Dedicated years to her church
- Supported her family deeply
- Brought joy to everyone around her
Her sudden passing has left a deep emotional gap that cannot be filled.
