An Alabama man is accused of killing a woman, stuffing her body in a trash bag, and leaving it along a highway.

The Victim
Karen Hollis, 23, was reported missing on May 8 in Northport, Alabama. Her family found her remains on Interstate 20 in Greene County on Saturday after searching an area identified through recovered electronic evidence. An autopsy confirmed she died from asphyxiation, and her death was ruled a homicide.

The Suspect
Randall Lendell Dejourney, 44, is accused of strangling Hollis in her apartment and disposing of her body. Authorities say Dejourney was an acquaintance and friend of one of Hollis’ neighbors. The motive is still under investigation.

Investigation Details
Police discovered Hollis’ phone several miles away, initially believed to be the site of a car crash. Life360 app data showed Hollis leaving her apartment at 4:25 a.m. on the day she disappeared and noted “hard braking” at 4:42 a.m. Multiple search warrants were executed, and extensive physical, witness, and electronic evidence was gathered.

Legal Status
Dejourney is in Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond. His next court appearance has not been announced.
