Police: North Charleston jugging suspect faces 12 warrants, more charges possible

North Charleston police say a two-year investigation into a series of “jugging” theft cases has led to a primary suspect who is now facing multiple charges.

Suspect Identified in Jugging Cases

Police identified Bobby Ray Taylor Jr. as the main suspect in the investigation. He is currently facing 12 warrants, with more charges expected as the case continues.

Authorities said Taylor could eventually face up to 54 total charges, including breaking and entering vehicles, grand larceny, and conspiracy.

What Is Jugging?

Police describe jugging as a crime where a suspect watches people withdraw large amounts of cash from banks. The suspect then follows the victim to another location and breaks into their vehicle once they leave it unattended.

Investigators say this method has been used in several recent theft cases across North Charleston.

Large Number of Cases Under Investigation

Detectives believe Taylor may be connected to around 18 jugging incidents, with the possibility of more cases being added. Officials estimate that the total stolen cash linked to the investigation is about $269,350.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Taylor is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. Police say the investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may follow as more evidence is reviewed.
