A wrong-way driver was found dead after driving into the woods near North Charleston

A driver was found dead Thursday morning after crashing an SUV into a wooded area in North Charleston, police said.

Wrong-Way Crash Under Investigation

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers responded around 5:39 a.m. after receiving an iPhone crash notification near U.S. Highway 52 and NAD Road.

Driver Found Dead at Scene

Police said the SUV had gone off the roadway and crashed into the woods.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Ongoing

North Charleston police said the department’s Traffic Unit is investigating what caused the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
