A South Carolina man has been sentenced to prison for his role in the 2023 Isle of Palms beach shooting that injured several people during a senior skip-day gathering.
Man Sentenced in Isle of Palms Shooting
Authorities said Davion Bobby Del’Shawn Singleton pleaded guilty to multiple charges connected to the April 2023 shooting.
A judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison, with credit for time already served.
Shooting Happened During Senior Skip-Day Event
The violence happened on April 7, 2023, while Isle of Palms police were responding to a disturbance on the beach.
Officers said they suddenly heard rapid gunfire and rushed toward the scene.
Five people were shot and taken to hospitals for treatment.
Victims Included Teenagers
According to investigators, the victims included:
- Two 15-year-olds
- One 16-year-old
- One 17-year-old
- One 28-year-old woman
Charges Reduced After Plea Deal
Singleton was originally charged with attempted murder and other weapons offenses.
He later pleaded guilty to:
- Two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature
- One count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime
Police Praise Response to Incident
Isle of Palms Police Department said officers and investigators worked closely with partner agencies to bring those involved to justice.
Police also said the case showed violence would not be tolerated in the beach community.
