A violent incident at a Pennsylvania mall has raised concerns after a verbal argument quickly turned into a stabbing involving a teenager.
Incident at Willow Grove Park Mall
The घटना took place inside Willow Grove Park Mall in Abington Township, just outside Philadelphia. According to the Abington Township Police Department, officers responded around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault involving a knife.
What Led to the Attack
Police say a group of teenage girls were riding an escalator when a comment was made about a bad smell. The remark was then directed at a man standing behind them, identified as Angel Ortiz, 23.
Authorities said Ortiz became upset and began arguing with the teens. He allegedly challenged one of the girls during the confrontation.
Situation Escalates Quickly
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Ortiz walking away before the 14-year-old girl followed him and struck him. Investigators say Ortiz then reacted by swinging a knife, which caused injuries to the girl’s arms.
He later told police he did not intend to stab her but was trying to get her to back away.
Victim’s Condition
The teenage girl suffered multiple cuts to her arms and was taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Arrest and Charges
Police located Ortiz nearby shortly after the incident. He was found with two pocket knives and was taken into custody.
He now faces several charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, and possession of a weapon with intent. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on a $50,000 bail.
Next Court Hearing
Ortiz has already appeared for a preliminary arraignment and is expected back in court on April 29 for the next hearing.
