Prescribed burns are expected until April at Kings Mountain National Military Park

Kings Mountain National Military Park in Blacksburg, S.C., will conduct prescribed burns through April 30 to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire risks.

Burn Locations

  • Battlefield unit: 175 acres between the visitor center and Battleground Drive.
  • Eastline unit: 272 acres along the eastern boundary near Kings Mountain State Park.
  • Howser unit: 31 acres bordered by private property and Rock House Road, including historic Henry Howser and Mary Morris Houses.

Visitor Impacts

Nearby areas may experience light smoke and reduced visibility, with temporary trail and ground closures in burn zones for safety. These controlled fires restore native plants and historic landscapes per NPS plans.
