Coroner identifies man who died after a'medical emergency' while in custody

David Tisdale, a 42-year-old Summerville man wanted on multiple warrants including attempted murder, died in custody on March 1, 2026, after suffering a medical emergency in a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. He passed away at Summerville Medical Center around 9:30 p.m. despite CPR, Narcan, and EMS efforts.

Incident Details

Deputies stopped Tisdale near Ladson Road and Jamison Road; he became unresponsive in the patrol car en route to detention. Prior North Charleston reports linked him to a February 18 “shots fired” incident involving a rifle at a store.

Investigation Status

Cause and manner of death remain pending autopsy results. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is probing alongside the coroner’s office, standard for in-custody deaths.
