A woman in California is accused of shooting a single mother in the back as the victim was walking into her home after a fight. Elvia Johnson, 20, is wanted in connection with the homicide, the San Bernardino Police Department announced on Wednesday, urging the public to help locate her. The victim, 19-year-old Niliyah Montgomery, was identified by Los Angeles-based CBS affiliates KCAL and KCBS.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on Feb. 1, 2026, at about 5 p.m. on the 1600 block of Concord Street in San Bernardino. Multiple people were reportedly involved in a fight outside of Montgomery’s home. Although the cause of the altercation is unclear, it seemed to have ended, and Montgomery was walking back into her house when Johnson allegedly got into a vehicle and fired a single gunshot, striking Montgomery in the back.
Victim’s Family and Public Appeal for Information
Montgomery’s mother, Tasha Montgomery, emotionally recounted the events, saying her daughter came running into her arms with blood coming from her mouth. Montgomery, a single mother of a 3-year-old girl, had recently returned to school to improve her life after dropping out when she was pregnant. The San Bernardino Police Department is asking anyone with information about Johnson’s whereabouts to come forward.
