Boys, ages 4 and 19, were fatally shot after a gunfire exchange that followed an argument with a South Carolina man.

Authorities in Rock Hill say a deadly shooting Tuesday night left a 19-year-old man and a 4-year-old boy dead, and a 34-year-old suspect hospitalized and facing multiple charges.

Police allege an argument broke out between Cedric Akeen Creighton, 34, and Jamareon Kimble, 19, shortly before 8 p.m. on February 17. Investigators say the two men, who knew each other, began exchanging gunfire inside a home before the shooting spilled out onto the street.

Caught in the crossfire was 4-year-old Jakolby Clifton, who was fatally shot. Kimble also died in the incident. Creighton was wounded during the exchange and remains hospitalized. Once medically cleared, he is expected to be transferred to jail in Rock Hill and will make his first court appearance.

Police said several other people were inside the home at the time of the gunfire but were not injured. Authorities have not released details about what sparked the initial argument.

A nearby resident described hearing loud gunshots just before 8 p.m., initially mistaking them for fireworks. The scene, she said, left the neighborhood stunned.

The Rock Hill Police Department continues to investigate the case. Kevin Brackett, the 16th Circuit Solicitor, said his office is in communication with investigators and has offered assistance as the investigation moves forward.

If convicted, Creighton faces a minimum sentence of 30 years to life in prison on each murder charge.

Court records show Creighton was previously charged in connection with a 2021 riot at the Lancaster County Detention Center, where he faced assault and battery by a mob in the third degree.

The investigation into Tuesday’s shooting remains ongoing.
