One person was killed in a crash Thursday morning in Gaston County, according to emergency officials. The collision happened around 11 a.m. on Interstate 85 South near Bessemer City Road in Gastonia.
Police said a tractor-trailer was parked on the side of the highway with cones set up around it when a southbound car crashed into the back of the truck. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lane Closure Causing Major Delays
The Gastonia Police Department said the right lane of I-85 South near Exit 14 has been closed as crews respond to the crash. The closure has led to significant traffic delays in the area as the investigation continues.
