On February 12, 2026, a school bus carrying 48 students from Bessemer City Primary and Central Elementary schools crashed into woods off Jenkins and Jenkins Dairy roads near Gastonia in Gaston County, North Carolina.

Incident Details

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. when the driver of bus No. 505 swerved, overcorrected, and veered off the winding road. Police and emergency responders attended, with aerial footage showing students seated outside the bus.​

Injuries and Response

Fourteen students sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including one with a broken arm, and were hospitalized; parents were notified. A replacement bus transported the remaining students and driver back to schools for parent pickup. One student reported the bus was traveling too fast.
