Dominion Energy will host a vegetation management workshop in Charleston

Dominion Energy plans to trim vegetation near overhead power lines in several Charleston neighborhoods to enhance safety and reliability. This routine work addresses trees as the top cause of outages in their system.

Affected Neighborhoods

Trimming targets Silver Hill/Magnolia, Bridgeview, North Central, East Central, Four Mile Hibernian, Garden Hill, Westside, and parts of Cannonborough/Elliotborough.

Project Timeline

The effort follows a five-year cycle for system maintenance. A workshop on Thursday from 4:30-6 p.m. at Freddie Whaley Community Center on Doscher Avenue displays oversized maps; property owners get two weeks’ notice beforehand.

Safety Rationale

Overgrown trees near lines create fire hazards and risks to workers and residents. Dominion uses industry-standard pruning to direct growth away from infrastructure while minimizing long-term damage.
